DISCUSSION QUESTION:
Enhancing employees’ knowledge through training and development is crucial in today’s marketplace. Employees who receive training will improve their skills, gain knowledge, and perform their daily work more effectively and efficiently. In turn, those employees tend to stay engaged, remain motivated, improve performance, and help the organization stay competitive.
However, the implementation of the proper strategy for employee learning is a challenge for most organizations. In the majority of organizations there is a diversity of learners, and different employees learn better through different learning styles. Such leaning styles need to be taken into consideration when planning a training program.
Go to “ What’s your learning style? (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.” and take the learning style quiz. (This is the quiz you took in the Week 1 Post Your Introduction)
Post your quiz results and discuss your learning style. Additionally, address the following implications of knowing a person’s learning style:
*What type of training most appeals to people with a similar learning style to you?
*What methods of instruction work best with your learning style group?
*What method of instruction is a challenge for this learning style group?
*WEEK 1 INTRODUCTION & QUIZ NEEDED FOR WEEK 3 DISCUSSION-INTRODUCTION BELOW:
My name is Tasha Smith and is now my sixth class in my Master’s Program at Ashford University, I am very proud to be finishing my Master’s degree. I was born in Minot, North Dakota. I am currently living in Orlando, Florida. I served just over 7 years in the Air Force. I did three tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom/ Enduring Freedom. I know work for the Government. I have one 20-year-old son and one 19-year-old daughter and am a recent empty nester. I am hoping to use my degree to move up the chain with the government and do some traveling. Ashford has been a wonderful school allowing me to do work online and work on my own time. The flexibility is exactly what I have needed. Also, for the most part have had great instructors.
After taking the “What’s Your Learning Style” questionnaire I learned that my learning styles are as follows in the three primary styles:
- Visual-30%
- Auditory-45%
- Tactile-25%
Auditory
If you are an auditory learner, you learn by hearing and listening. You understand and remember things you have heard. You store information by the way it sounds, and you have an easier time understanding spoken instructions than written ones. You often learn by reading out loud because you have to hear it or speak it in order to know it.
As an auditory learner, you probably hum or talk to yourself or others if you become bored. People may think you are not paying attention, even though you may be hearing and understanding everything being said.
Here are some things that auditory learners like you can do to learn better.
- Sit where you can hear.
- Have your hearing checked on a regular basis.
- Use flashcards to learn new words; read them out loud.
- Read stories, assignments, or directions out loud.
- Record yourself spelling words and then listen to the recording.
- Have test questions read to you out loud.
- Study new material by reading it out loud.
I was not surprised by the results because I have always known that I am a visual learner and this is another reason why going to school online has been so great for me also. I read out-loud and talk to myself all the time to remember things and most people around me think I am crazy but for me it’s a way of retaining that information in the brain. Know I now it is a learning style and I will make sure and let everyone know. ????
