Individual Assignment REQUIRED The Natural History of Disease What current public health condition concerns you most? Is it an illness that remains a widespread problem in your home country? Or is it an emerging disease on a faraway continent? The natural history of a disease is the sequence of stages or progression of the disease over a course of time, in the absence of treatment. By understanding the stages of susceptibility, time of exposure occurrence, time of pathologic changes, type of symptoms, time of onset of symptoms, etc., you can promote the primary, secondary or tertiary prevention strategies according to the stage of the condition. For the Final Project for this module, you will write a report on the epidemiology of a particular cause of a particular disease in a country of your choosing. This Final Project will measure your understanding of this module’s materials and will help you structure your learning. The Individual Assignments in this module will help guide you to complete the Final Project. To prepare for this Individual Assignment: ? Review the readings and watch the video suggested for this unit. ? Select a particular cause of mortality or morbidity in a country of your choosing. To complete this Individual Assignment: ? Write an essay of 300–500 words, incorporating at least two external references in which you address the following: o Describe the cause of mortality or morbidity in the country you have chosen. o Using the chart provided on page 1-59 of the CDC textbook, describe the natural history of this condition, including the incubation period (for infectious diseases) or the latency period (for chronic conditions). o Describe the host, the agent and the environment that interact within the same ecological system and have contributed to this condition. o Describe at least one primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategy that could be promoted in each stage of the natural history of this condition. ?
